A New Design for a New Approach to K-8
The Eddie J. White K-8 Academy is a departure from a traditional distribution of elementary schools (grades K-5) and middle schools (grades 6-8).
Three public sessions were conducted by MSSA to inform the community of recent trends and benefits in the design of educational facilities. We incorporated some unique elements from those meetings including a parent center, a raised platform seating “town hall meeting space”, and four outdoor classrooms. These outdoor courtyard style classrooms have teaching elements for the children to explore different Georgia regions. K-5 and 6-8 grades are completely separated, but a flexible partition in the commons and movable furniture in the media center allows the areas to open together for special events.
