Matzke Elementary  School – Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District

Replacing an existing elementary school, Matzke Elementary School was designed to meet the current district standards and follow an elementary school program that would provide enhanced learning environments, flexible learning spaces, and design for a higher capacity of occupants. Performance and energy usage are easily monitored and viewed through Building Automation Systems as well as sustainable features including a rain cistern, recycling, student gardens, and more. Through these features, sustainability can be taught with a hands-on approach. Additional space was designed and programmed to house the deaf education program. The special education program and individual grade levels have their own wing or section of the school, all while keeping Matzke a cohesive learning community. This project was delivered within the project’s budget and on time for the campus’s scheduled move and opening in 2017 while meeting the design challenges and criteria set forth by the owner.
